Neptune in Aries 2025 - 2039: the next big shift.

Not that long ago, the big news in astrological circles was Pluto moving from Capricorn into Aquarius. But this ongoing shift is only one indication of the profound and significant changes taking place for humanity at this time, for another heavyweight planet is getting ready to change Signs next year...

Neptune will be leaving its home Sign of Pisces at the very end of March 2025, after a 14-year stay. As Pisces is the last Sign of the zodiac, this marks the culmination of a 164-year cycle. Neptune will then begin a brand new cycle when it moves into tropical Aries on March 31st 2025, where it will remain until 2038/39.

As with most of the planets, especially the outer planets, Neptune will initially move back and forth between Aries and Pisces and then eventually between Aries and Taurus, due to its slow pace and retrograde periods.

Here are the key dates to look out for:

  • 31st March - 22nd October 2025: Neptune in Aries.

  • 23rd October 2025 - 27th February 2026: Neptune in Pisces (retrograde).

  • 28th February 2026 - 22nd May 2038: Neptune in Aries.

  • 23rd May - 21st October 2038: Neptune in Taurus.

  • 22nd October 2038 - 23rd March 2039: Neptune in Aries (retrograde).

But what does this mean for us mere mortals? Neptune is the Roman god of the seas and has links to sailors, seafaring vessels and marine life, as well as undersea earthquakes, tsunamis and floods. He is also the patron god of horses and equestrianism and is closely related to the Greek god Poseidon, who carries the iconic trident. In astrology, Neptune has come to represent all things fluid and otherworldly, including our dreams and imagination, creativity and the arts, religion and spirituality, as well as medicine and healing. Of course, it is also related to horses, equestrianism, the oceans and everything to do with water.

The darker side of Neptune can be deceitful and delusional, hiding truths and creating confusion, spreading misinformation and being susceptible to illusions. It also relates to escapism and indulgent fantasies, usually through intoxication, as well as the spread of mysterious illnesses.

Meanwhile Aries, as the first Sign of the Zodiac, is associated with new beginnings, independence, leadership, a pioneering spirit and courage. It is both a competitive and adventurous sign, but prone to conflict and war. Fueled by passion and spontaneity, it can also be selfish, impulsive and reckless. It also symbolises the head and blood.

By considering these associations, we can already get an idea of what Neptune's transit in Aries might entail. This will not only mark the beginning of a brand new cycle for humanity, but one that will coincide with new discoveries that have lasting impacts in many fields and areas of life.

Let's have a look at what occurred last time Neptune transited Aries, which will help us get a feel for what might unfold this time around.

Neptune's Previous Transit of Aries: 1861 - 1875.

Several notable events, inventions, and advances in areas related to Neptune and Aries occurred last time the planet transited this Sign. Here are some of the more significant ones:

Germ Theory of Disease (1861)

Louis Pasteur first proposes the idea that diseases are caused by germs, relating to Aries as a pioneer and establishing new ideas - in this instance about the spread of disease, which is the realm of Neptune. He and Robert Koch made significant strides in the development of germ theory during this period, which helped to transform medical science and led to better understanding and control of infectious diseases.

The American Civil War (1861-1865) & Emancipation Proclamation (1863)

A major conflict between the Northern states (Union) and the Southern states (Confederacy) in the USA, over issues of slavery and states' rights. The Southern states seceded from the Union to preserve the institution of slavery and assert their independence, but eventually lost to the Union. Remember that Aries is ruled by the planet Mars, god of war and aggression, but is also about seeking independence. Meanwhile, the emancipation proclamation of 1863, issued by President Abraham Lincoln, declared that all enslaved people in Confederate states were to be set free, manifesting again as the spirit of Aries. Interestingly, horses (ruled by Neptune) played a crucial role in this war, being used extensively for cavalry, transportation, and logistics by both the Union and Confederate armies.

The Royal Agricultural Society of England's Annual Show (1862)

This event, founded in 1862, included competitions and exhibitions for horses, showcasing advancements in breeding and training. This embodies Neptune's association with horses and both the new beginnings and competitive nature of Aries.

Great US Flood (1862)

In the same year, one of the largest floods in US recorded history affected California, Nevada, Utah, and Oregon, which is of course an event linked to Neptune. The flood was unusual due to its scale and duration, mostly affecting the states of California, Nevada and Utah, which are normally warm, dry, desert-like places (Aries as a Fire Sign).

The Belmont Stakes (1867)

One of the three races that make up the Triple Crown of American horse racing was first run in 1867, remaining one of the most prestigious events in equestrian sports. Similarly, this is symbolised by Neptune's link to horses and Aries beginning something new.

Saint Petersburg Flood (1867)

Another significant flood (Neptune) occurred this year, in Saint Petersburg, Russia, causing considerable damage to the city. As a result, pioneering changes in urban planning and engineering were taken to improve flood defences, representing the spirit of Aries.

Antiseptic Surgery (1867)

Joseph Lister published his work on antiseptic surgery, significantly reducing post-operative infections and mortality. This relates to both Neptune's domain of medicine and the afterlife, along with Aries' association with blood, in this instance blood-borne viruses and the role blood can play in spreading infections.

Typewriter Invention (1868)

The first practical typewriter was invented by Christopher Sholes, Carlos Glidden, and Samuel Soule in this year. Typewriters themselves may be more Mercury's domain, but this invention (Aries) surely inspired more people to express their creativity and imagination through writing, which is certainly the realm of Neptune.

First Successful Blood Transfusion (1869)

A key milestone in medical history, the blood transfusion procedure contributed to advancements in haematology and emergency medicine, which embodies themes and keywords of both Neptune and Aries.

Transcontinental Railroad (1869)

The first railroad connecting the East and West coasts of the United States was completed during this period. Although not directly related to seafaring vessels, the railroad was a pioneering Aries invention that connected the two coastlines of the USA and created a more cost-effective means of transporting goods overland compared to the sea (Neptune). Indirectly, the increasing competition from railroads for the transportation of goods and passengers prompted maritime shipping companies to make advancements in ship-building technology, in order to remain competitive. This perfectly encapsulates the competitiveness of Aries in relation to seafaring vessels (Neptune).

Periodic Table (1869)

Dmitri Mendeleev published his first (Aries) periodic table of elements, which provided essential information about elements and their properties. This was critical for understanding the composition and behaviour of compounds used in medications, particularly for drug development and pharmacology, which are all governed by Neptune.

Spiritualism (1860s - 1870s)

This very Neptunian belief system, centred around communication with spirits of the dead, grew in popularity after the end of the American Civil War (Aries). It is thought to have peaked in the 1870s, though remained popular thereafter, with séances, mediums, and spiritualist organizations all pioneering new ways of communicating with the spirit world.

Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871)

Another major conflict (Aries) between the Second French Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia, leading to the unification of Germany. Again, cavalry units played a significant role in reconnaissance and communications during this conflict, as did both the French and Prussian Navy - remember that Neptune rules both seafaring vessels and horses.

The Kentucky Derby (1875)

The first Kentucky Derby, another race in the American Triple Crown, took place in 1875 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. This event quickly became a premier horseracing event, which again perfectly sums up Neptune in Aries.

The Theosophical Society (1875)

Perhaps evolving from the popularity of spiritualism, this new movement founded by Helena Blavatsky and others, sought to explore mystical and occult philosophies, which encapsulates the essence of Neptune in Aries.

As you may have noticed, these various events and inventions reflect the dynamic and pioneering nature of Aries, as well as its more combative and warlike side, along with the themes of Neptune in relation to the ocean, water, medicine and not forgetting horses.

Still, the above list provides an idea of what the kinds of events, challenges and inventions we might expect to see when Neptune transits Aries.

Let's now consider the potential of this transit for each Sign.

Neptune in Aries for each Sign.

Below is a brief overview of how Neptune in Aries might manifest in the coming years according to your Sun Sign. This can also apply to any personal planets or angles you have in these Signs, including your Ascendant and MC, so remember to check your birth chart for a complete picture.

            ARIES

Neptune in your Sign marks a significant period of personal changes, including a possible spiritual awakening or identity transformation. At some point during this transit, Neptune will conjunct your natal Sun (or any planets or angles you have in Aries), representing a fusion of their energies - and the most potent time for you personally during this transit. Both your intuition and imagination will be heightened in the coming years, inspiring you to pursue your dreams and ideals, along with any creative and spiritual interests. Ultimately, this will lead to a deeper connection to your creative and spiritual self. However, you might also experience greater confusion at this time, or a sense of being ungrounded or less focused, as personal boundaries blur and old ego structures dissolve.

During this period, it's important that you learn to navigate these changes with patience and self-compassion, allowing space for your dreams and ideals to emerge while staying mindful of any potential escapism or unrealistic expectations. Embrace the journey of self-discovery and use this time to align more closely with your true essence and higher aspirations. Let your creativity and imagination run free, while using exercise routines, sports or mindfulness techniques to help keep you grounded in the present.

            TAURUS

Neptune in your neighbouring Sign of Aries will form a mildly supportive semi-sextile aspect to your Sun (or any planets or angles you have in Taurus) at some point during its transit. Overall, this is a time of subtle shifts in your sense of stability, which will also affect your personal values. You may be gently encouraged to integrate a more spiritual or religious element into your daily life, or perhaps use your imagination and artistic qualities for more practical pursuits. Activities that blend imagination with tangible results can be especially appealing to you during this time, particularly arts and crafts, which will help you to be more productive and feel more fulfilled.

While the effects of Neptune's transit will be relatively mild for you, it could still prompt you to reconsider what truly brings you security and satisfaction in life. Embrace this period as an opportunity to explore new dimensions of pleasure and comfort, while allowing for flexibility and inspiration that can enrich your grounded nature. You may experience a persistent need to reassess your values and relationship to material possessions, but no doubt this transit will grant you the intuition to find some new solutions to your problems.

            GEMINI

Neptune in Aries will form a supportive sextile aspect to your Sun (or any planets or angles you have in Gemini) at some point during this transit. This brings you a wave of creative inspiration and heightened intuition, enhancing your natural ability to communicate with others with greater empathy and depth. During this time, you may find it easier to network and connect with all kinds of people on a more meaningful level. Your curiosity and imagination are both stimulated, which can lead to innovative ideas and a more fluid approach to problem-solving.

You may also feel compelled to explore new spiritual or artistic pursuits during this time. If you do, they will help you find surprising news ways to express yourself and allow your ideas and thoughts to flow more freely. While Neptune will offer you a harmonious blend of intellect and intuition, ensure that you stay focused and avoid getting lost in daydreams, gossip or unrealistic fantasies during this transit, as this will only scatter your mental energies and make you feel less productive.

            CANCER

Neptune in Aries will form a tense square aspect to your Sun (or any planets or angles you have in Cancer) at some point during this transit. This can create a sense of emotional confusion and vulnerability at times, particularly when the square aspect is exact to your natal planets. This transit may blur your personal boundaries, making it challenging to discern between reality and illusion in your emotional life. Consequently, you might feel more sensitive and susceptible to misunderstandings or unrealistic expectations during this time, particularly in relationships. It's essential that you find ways to stay grounded during this period, whether that's spending time in nature, with your pets, or meditating. Prioritising your emotional wellbeing is also essential, as well as striving for clarity and honest communication in family matters and your intimate relationships.

You can best use this time to deepen your empathy and natural sense of compassion, but be cautious of escapist tendencies or becoming overly idealistic. If you're feeling overly stressed, embracing self-care practices will help you maintain emotional balance and also protect your inner sense of security, so remember to be kind and gentle with yourself.

            LEO

Neptune in Aries will form a harmonious trine aspect to your Sun (or any planets or angles you have in Leo) at some point during this transit. This provides you with an easy flow of creativity, inspiration, and spiritual growth during this time. This is an excellent period in which to pursue artistic endeavors, particularly when you can inspire others with your work and insights. You may also find more opportunities for compassionate leadership now.

While the energy of this transit is generally uplifting, ensure that you maintain the balance between your dreams and practical realities to avoid any potential disillusionment. Embrace this period as an opportunity to shine brightly while staying true to your higher aspirations. The enhanced creative energies, coupled with a stronger connection to your artistic and spiritual self, will support bolder self-expression and renewed vigor to pursue your passions.

            VIRGO

Neptune in Aries will form a mildly challenging quincunx aspect to your Sun (or any planets or angles you have in Virgo) at some point during this transit. This creates a dynamic tension that can lead to feelings of uncertainty, introspection and necessary personal adjustments. This transit may also challenge your desire for order and precision, as Neptune's elusive energy blurs the lines between clarity and structure. You might experience periodic confusion, or a sense of being ungrounded in your daily routines and goals. It's essential that you remain adaptable and open to new perspectives at this time, even if they seem nebulous at first.

You can best use Neptune's transit to cultivate compassion for yourself and others, and allow your intuition to guide you through any periods of doubt. Embrace your innate flexibility and trust that any adjustments you make will lead to a more holistic and spiritually aligned approach to your life. Stay grounded with meditation, music, mindfulness techniques or artistic pursuits during this time.

            LIBRA

Neptune in Aries will form a strong opposition to your natal Sun (or any planets or angles you have in Libra) at some point during this transit. This marks a period of heightened sensitivity and confrontation, especially regarding your personal identity and close relationships. Neptune in your opposing Sign can blur the boundaries between self and others. This may reveal hidden dynamics at work in your relationships, potential misunderstandings with others, personal insights or revelations, or a tendency to idealize or romanticise. This period may also make it more difficult to find the balance in life that you naturally crave, particularly between your personal needs and those of others. Consequently, you may feel pulled between self-assertion and compromise more than usual.

It's important that you remain grounded and graceful during this time, striving for clear communication rather than needless confrontation. You can best use this time to deepen your empathy and compassion for others, as well as yourself, by maintaining a healthy sense of self and being open to the evolving dynamics of your relationships. Avoid escapism, romanticism, or having unrealistic expectations of others and embrace a more spiritual and intuitive approach to your relationships.

            SCORPIO

Neptune in Aries will form a mildly challenging quincunx aspect to your Sun (or any planets or angles you have in Scorpio) at some point during this transit. This creates a subtle tension between Neptune's ethereal influence and your innate transformative energy. This transit may bring about a period of intense uncertainty and necessary adjustments, particularly regarding emotional matters and how you use your power dynamics. You may develop a heightened sensitivity to hidden motives and subconscious patterns, which can lead to confusion or a sense of being overwhelmed by emotional complexities. It's essential that you navigate this transit with a willingness to adapt and integrate spiritual insights into your inner every day life.

This is a great time to embrace periods of introspection and explore your subconscious motivations, allowing Neptune's gentle guidance to illuminate hidden truths. Trust your intuition and seek out healing practices that can promote your emotional and spiritual growth. By maintaining a balance between vulnerability and inner strength, you can harness the transformative potential of this transit to deepen your understanding of yourself and others.

            SAGITTARIUS

Neptune in Aries will form a harmonious trine aspect to your Sun (or any planets or angles you have in Sagittarius) at some point during this transit. This period creates an easy flow of spiritual growth, inspiration, and expansive vision. Your natural optimism, adventurous spirit, and philosophical outlook on life are all enhanced by Neptune now. Consequently, you may feel a deeper connection to higher truths and a stronger desire to explore new horizons, both physically and intellectually. This transit will encourage you to embrace your ideals and beliefs with greater confidence and compassion, fostering inspiration and imagination, which makes it an excellent time for artistic pursuits, spiritual practices, and higher education.

You may also find yourself drawn to more mystical experiences during this time, or at least seeking deeper meaning in life. While this transit is very uplifting, ensure you find ways to remain grounded in reality, by aligning your aspirations and ideas with practical actions, otherwise you may be prone to disillusionment or escapism. Overall, this is a time to broaden your perspective and share your wisdom with others by integrating spiritual and philosophical insights into your daily life.

            CAPRICORN

Neptune in Aries will form a tense square aspect to your Sun (or any planets or angles you have in Capricorn) at some point during this transit. This can lead to some confusion, disillusionment, or a sense of being tested in your ambitions and responsibilities. This period may blur your sense of direction and authority, making it difficult to maintain a clear focus on your goals and achievements. You may experience feelings of uncertainty or insecurity regarding your professional life, leadership roles, or long-term plans now. It's important to stay grounded and discerning amidst Neptune's nebulous influence, avoiding tendencies towards escapism or unrealistic expectations.

Embrace this period as an opportunity to reassess your goals and strategies, seeking clarity through introspection and practical adjustments. You can best use this time to cultivate patience and persistence in pursuing your ambitions, while also integrating compassion and intuition into your approach. By staying disciplined and maintaining a balance between idealism and practicality, you can navigate this transit with resilience and emerge stronger in your sense of purpose and achievement.

This lends you a harmonious blend of idealism and innovation, as well as boosting your humanitarian ideals. This period can enhance your ability to think outside the box and embrace progressive ideas with greater originality and empathy. For instance, you may feel inspired to connect with like-minded individuals or groups who share your vision for social change and collective well-being. You may also begin to explore more unconventional approaches to problem-solving and community involvement. Your intuition and sensitivity are further heightened, making it easier for you to understand and empathize with others' perspectives now.

This is a great time to make use of advances in technology to boost your creativity, as well as collaborating on projects that promote unity and innovation. While this transit supports visionary thinking and altruistic endeavors, ensure you maintain a balance between idealism and practicality. Embrace this period as an opportunity to contribute positively to society while staying grounded in realistic goals and tangible outcomes. This period also encourages you to trust your instincts and embrace moments of inspiration that align with your soul's purpose.

You can best use this transit for healing and nurturing your inner world, by fostering a deeper connection to spiritual truths and universal love. It's important to remain mindful of your boundaries and practical considerations at this time, so that you don't get lost in Neptune's haze of idealism or fantasy. By integrating compassion and creativity into your daily life, you will enrich both your emotional and spiritual well-being.

Neptune’s Aspects to Personal Planets and Angles.

Remember to check how Neptune's transit through Aries will impact your complete birth chart. The aspects it forms to your personal planets, including the Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars, as well as any angles (particularly your Ascendant, Midheaven), will indicate profound personal changes in how you perceive and interact with the world.

For example, a Neptune-Moon aspect might enhance your emotional sensitivity and intuition, while a Neptune-Mars aspect could dissolve any assertive tendencies in favour of more compassion and empathy for others. If you have an Aries Ascendant, Neptune's transit will colour your entire perception and outlook on life, as well as potentially changing your appearance and how others perceive you. Neptune transiting an Aries MC will similarly have a lasting impact on your direction in life, including your career and purpose. This can be a time of great creativity and imagination, improving your intuition and empathic nature, as well as your sense of faith and spirituality. But Neptune can also generate much confusion, fantasy and illusion, along with feelings of being lost, vague or directionless in life.
